F Javier Barrera

Francisco Javier Barrera
Corpus Christi, TX

Javier Barrera died suddenly Thursday, December 13, 2012 with his wife by his side. He was born in Roma, TX., to Jose and Avelina Barrera (both deceased) on December 3, 1938. He is also pre-deceased by two younger brothers, Jose Jaime Barrera and Jesus Gilberto Barrera.

Javier loved family, and he loved to travel. From an early age, Javier was head of household for his mother and younger siblings. He took on this responsibility with pride. This dedication to family continued throughout the years as he married his love, Juanita V. Barrera, and had a family of his own. Always a father figure, he made certain that everyone in his extended family was cared for. He also instilled a STRONG conviction of getting an education. Providing for his family, he still received a Bachelor degree in Finance and Statistics from Corpus Christi State University. Javier was employed with the US Postal Service for 40 yrs., retiring in 2005. He became a full time rancher raising Beefmaster cattle. Javier loved to travel. He and Juanita traveled the world - most recently a European Cruise 2 summers ago, and a trip to Atlantic City and the Midwest countryside earlier this year. He felt that traveling was an education in and of itself-to experience different cultures and see historical sites.

Javier is survived by his wife of 50 years, Juanita; his daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Stephen Broll, and his grandchildren whom he cherished most of all: Stephenie Judith Broll and Samuel Benjamin Broll; he is also survived by his three sisters: Zulema Saldana, Maricela Munoz (Edward) and Ester Judith Vallejo; plus numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, December 16, 2012 at Guardian Funeral Home Chapel A and a Rosary and celebration of Javier's life wil be held at 7:00 p.m., that evening.
