Thomas Claude Crews, PhD

Thomas Claude Crews, PhD. of Huntsville, Texas passed away November 26, 2013 at his residence. He was 72 years old.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents Virginia Beth France and Claude Clarence Crews. Tom was born March 23, 1941 in Centralia, Illinois, when his dad was transferred there on a job. He was NOT born in Texas (which he regretted) but the family moved back to Texas when he was 4 years old. He grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas where he attended W. B. Ray High School graduating 1959. He served in the United States Army 1959 – 1961 as an MP, was in Reserves Officer Training while attending Texas A&M 1961-1965 and was Honorably Discharged in May 1966. Tom attended Delmar Junior College where he studied art and music. He played upright bass in jazz bands, bass guitar in blues bands, saxophone and harmonica. In later years, he and his brother Jim and son Mitch would be known as the Crews Brothers. Tom graduated Texas A&M University in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science. He received a M.S. from Louisiana Christian University in Forensic Psychology Legal Trac and his Ph.D. from Louisiana Christian University in Clinical Psychology. Tom moved to Houston in 1965 where he would live until 1994 when he moved to Huntsville, Texas, where he lived until his death. He had many different jobs including ranch manager, real estate investor, karate instructor, personal protection services, sales, trucking owner and operator, group facilitator, therapist, counselor supervisor and counselor III for Gateway Foundation at the Estelle Unit TDCJ in Huntsville TX. Tom’s hobbies included scuba diving, ranching, horse breeding, knife making, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He earned a black belt in Isshinryu Karate, and participated in historic re-enactments, classic car restoration, and was a member of the Huntsville Cruisers. He sang in his church choir, and was Alcohol Drug Chair as a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church since 1994. Tom was a member of the original CC Riders of Corpus Christi, TX and later a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association. Tom married Rochelle Korzen in 1961. Their daughter Debra Crews-Connor was born in 1962 and son Mitchell Thomas Crews was born in 1965. Tom married Mary Sue “Suzie” Brockman in 1989 and raised her son Casey Lee Canton. Tom is survived by wife Suzie Crews, brother James Terry Crews (wife Wanda Braud and niece Aaryn McCarty), sister Vicki Elizabeth Crews (husband Kenny LeBlanc and son K.C. LeBlanc), daughter Debra Crews- Connor (husband Timothy Michael Connor), son Mitchell Thomas Crews (wife Tonya Dickie and their children Ashlyn Renee, Brendan Thomas, Blake Mitchell), step-son Casey Lee Canton (wife Kristin Gressett); grandson Roland Thomas Wyatt (children Dylan Thomas, Nicole Lannae, Isaac Wayne, Roland Thomas, Jr., Addisyn Lynn); granddaughter Tiffany Rachelle Wyatt (husband Derik Curtis and her children Jenacee Elizabeth Ashworth, Chasten Michael Dudley, Alahna Aaron Traverse, Joshua Aaron Traverse, Jr.) Tom is also survived by extended family Eric Wyatt, Erica Wyatt, Stephen Dudley, Josh Traverse Sr., Brittany Traverse, Kimberly Darst, Michael Ray Darst, Timothy Connor Jr., Joseph Connor, Mathew and wife Jenna Connor, Kathryn Connor. Tom leaves behind an abundance of loving family and friends that will miss him dearly. In keeping with his wishes he will be cremated at Brooke Crematory. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be 11:00 AM Saturday November 30, 2013 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Huntsville, Texas.
