Rose Ann Richards (-Vandergriff)

SAN ANGELO Rose Ann Vandergriff, 73, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, in San Angelo, Texas.  Rose Ann was born on March 1, 1941, to Ray and Helen Richards in Denton, Texas.  She married the love of her life, Jerry Vandergriff, on June 5, 1965, in Corpus Christi, Texas.  They were happily married for 49 years.  Jerry and Rose Ann moved to San Angelo in 1971, where they raised their son, Bo, and have made their home to this day.  Rose Ann was an exemplary school teacher at San Jacinto Elementary School and Lincoln Middle School in San Angelo, Texas.  She always saw the potential in every child.  Rose Ann was a loving and caring woman.  She was a devoted wife, mother and friend to all.  No mother expressed a greater love for her son than she did for Bo.  Rose Ann was the number one supporter of Jerry and the Angelo State University athletic program.  The many coaches, players, parents and wives that knew her were considered by Rose Ann to be a part of her family.  Rose Ann had a great love for life and a tremendous Christmas spirit.  Her home was a place of love and celebration during the Christmas season.  Pierce and Gwendolyn Rose Vandergriff, her grandchildren, were blessed to call her Nanna.  Rose Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Helen Richards; brother Jimmy Richards; and cousin T.W.  Carpenter.  Rose Ann is survived by her husband, Jerry Vandergriff; son Bo Vandergriff and wife Nicky; grandchildren Pierce and Gwendolyn; sister-in-law Sherrill Hutson and husband Wayne; sister-in-law Jean Vandergriff; nephew Mike Vandergriff and wife Christine plus children Cara, Caleb and Courtney; niece Charlotte Thompson and children Kelsi and Katie; niece Kim Erbe and husband Russ plus children Beau, Isabelle and Zach; and cousin Mary Ann Barnett.  A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 p.m.  to 8 p.m.  Thursday, June 26, at Johnson's Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be at 10 a.m.  Friday, June 27, in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens followed by a memorial service for Rose Ann at 11:30 a.m.  at First Christian Church, 29 N.  Oakes St., San Angelo, Texas.  Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Martin, Tim Reid, Hardee McCrary, Phil George, Jim Hess, Randy Matthews, Si Southall, Mike Ryan, Freddy Jonas, David Noble, James Reid, David Moody, Ed Messbarger, Raymond Greger and Buddy Horne.  In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations in Rose Ann Vandergriff's name to Angelo State University Athletics Foundation, ASU Station #11023, San Angelo, TX 76909-1023.
