Yvonne Runyan (-Nelson)

Yvonne Runyan (-Nelson)

Mrs. Yvonne Runyan Nelson, age 67 of Corpus Christi, Texas went to be with the Lord on November 30, 2007 after a brief but brave battle with cancer. She was born to former CCPD Police Chief R.T. Runyan and his wife Laura on October 27, 1940 and lived in and loved Corpus Christi all her life. She graduated from W.B. Ray High School and received her Associates Degree from Del Mar College. She spent her career as a bookkeeper before retiring in 2004. She never met a stranger and had a kind word and smile for everyone. Yvonne loved nothing more than spending time with her family and friends. Her retirement allowed her more time to garden and beautify her home. She also got to spend many happy days with her daughter and granddaughters in Austin of whom she was so proud. They will all miss their Grandma Von dearly. Yvonne is survived by her beloved husband Alfred R. Nelson to whom she married in 1988. When they met in 1982 at Doc Holliday?s he asked her to go sailing the next day. She thought that was one of the best pick up lines she had ever heard and they were inseparable from that day on. She often joked the only reason she married him was that he knew which end of the hammer to use. She is also survived by her only daughter Laurie McCartney and her two granddaughters Lexi and Hailey Warden of Austin, Texas. She leaves behind her dear brother Dick Runyan Jr of whom she was most proud when she was a bridesmaid at his 2006 wedding to Donna Wanderer. They had also enjoyed many years of bowling together as a family. Her extended family includes the late Devry Orrick, Myles Hernandez, Ryan Nelson and her children Cameron and Nicolas, Michael R. Nelson and his children Madison and Peyton. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 from 3:00 p.m. ? 9:00 p.m. with family to receive friends from 6:00 p.m. ? 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Seaside Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park. The family also sends out a heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful staff at Vista Care who took such loving care of our Yvonne.

Yvonne was a joy to be around. She and a lot of others were single during a time of life when most others were happily (at least hope so) married. We enjoyed going to western dances on Tuesday nights. In joyful memory of my friend.
