It is with great sadness that I want to let you know that our classmate Carolyn Sawtelle died unexpectedly early Wednesday, October 5. I met Carolyn in high school, then a couple of years later we found ourselves working at the OSU Dept. of Range Management at the same time. We started plotting our great adventure over lunches, and in Spring of 1969 we embarked on our almost three-month trip around Europe -- yes, we actually did it on $5 a day! Fifty years later we still talked about the fun we had and the memories we made. We kept in touch over the years and multiple moves, but really reconnected when she moved to Truckee about eight years ago while my husband and I were living the the Sacramento area, about 90 minutes away. We enjoyed frequent visits with her and her significant other, Dave Mouat. She became Auntie Carolyn to our three Dalmatians, and a trusted pet sitter when we traveled. I'm grateful that we both returned to the PNW and continued to get together. My husband and I both cherish the beautiful quilts she made and gave to us. She will be missed.
