Obituary for Bennie Franklin Cartledge

Bennie (Ben) Franklin Cartledge passed away at the age of 76 on Saturday June 12, 2021. With his passing, the world lost a cherished husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend. Ben was born June 30, 1944, in Covington, Georgia, the eldest child of Frank and Sylvia Cartledge (deceased). Ben joined the United States Navy in 1963 and married Nancy Jean “Jeanie” Lunsford on February 26, 1965. He enjoyed a 20-year career in the Navy, retiring at the rank of E7- Chief. The years in the Navy afforded him and his family opportunities to live across the United States and in the Philippines. At every place they lived, life long friends were made. Bennie had an incredible passion for fishing and was known fondly as the Bass King. His uncanny ability to catch fish was contagious. He loved to share his talent to fish with anyone who had an interest, especially his children and grandchildren. He spent an untold number of hours fishing lakes in Georgia and beyond. The lake was where Ben was happiest. Ben is survived by his wife of 56 years Jeanie; sons Tobie Lee Cartledge (Stephanie) and Todd Alan Cartledge; daughters Tammie Jean Prieto and Tonnie (Dan) Grunhard; grandsons Nicholaus Patrick Cartledge and Edward Drew Gredig; granddaughters Sierra Nite, Erika Alexis Wilson (Jacob), Savannah Grunhard, Scarlett Grunhard, Francis Abigail Prieto, Clara Isabel Prieto and Payton Jane Greene; great-grandchildren Ace Carter Branton, Sophia Lynn Wilson and Mason Alexander Cartledge. Additionally, he is survived by his brother Kyser (Margie) Cartledge, and sisters Shirley (George) Loebig and Helen (Ed) Carter; many nieces and nephews as well as countless beloved friends. Ben’s memorial will be held Saturday June 19, 2021 at 2:00pm at Scot Wards Green Meadow Chapel with Robert Wilson officiating, delivering words written by Pat Buchannan. Condolences may be submitted online at www.scotward.com Scot Ward Funeral Services, 699 American Legion Road, Conyers, GA 30012, 770-483-7216.
