Charles Kenneth McAllister, age 73, of San Antonio, TX died July 22, 2018. Ken McAllister, who was preceded in death by his parents Charles Prater and Christine McAllister of Covington, GA, passed away at his home in San Antonio, TX. He is survived by his son Benjamin Hill McAllister and his wife Claire of Fort Worth, TX and their children Cameron, Reese, and Pierce. He is survived by his daughter Meredith McAllister Block and husband Carlos of San Ramon, Peru and their children Bruno, Aaron and his wife Cassie and their children Evangeline, Adonirum, and Isabella and Daniel. He is survived by his daughter Heather McAllister Gilmour and husband Chip of Louisville, KY and their children Annabelle and her husband Mark and their children Dillon, Ava, Ella, and Sir, William and his wife Victoria, Benjamin, Levi, Samantha, and Maggie. He is also survived by his sister Kay McAllister Neely and husband Jim of Indian Pass, FL and their two children Kelly and Kate Neely and husband Jason and their daughter Aubrey.

He was born on September 19, 1944 and attended Newton County High School in Covington, GA. He graduated from Emory University in 1966 with degrees in Biology and History and Emory Medical School in 1970. He performed his medical internship, residency, and infectious disease fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA from 1970 to 1974. He joined the Air Force and moved to San Antonio, TX and was the assistant chief of infectious disease service at Wilford Hall Medical Center from 1974 to 1977. Ken then moved to Kansas City, MO and worked as an associate professor of medicine at the Kansas City and Missouri School of Medicine from 1977 to 1980. He then joined the Army and moved back to San Antonio, TX and worked as the assistant chief and then chief of the infectious disease service, program director for the infectious disease fellowship training program, and Dean of Military Professional Education at Brook Army Medical Center and Wilford Hall Medical Center infectious disease services from 1980 to his retirement in August of 2006. He served 26 years and one month in the military and was awarded the Legion of Merit, four Meritorious Service medals and an Army Commendation medal among others. He also served as an associate clinical professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, TX.

Ken was a member and teaching leader for Bible Study Fellowship from 1972 to his passing. He had also served as Chairman of the Board for San Antonio Christian School and as a member of the church elder board for Wayside Chapel. Additionally he was a civil war historian, a music and movie lover, and an avid Georgia Bulldog football and Atlanta Braves fan. He also enjoyed running and playing basketball and tennis with his children. He was a loving father, grandfather, and friend who will be dearly missed.

A Graveside Service will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in the Assembly Area, San Antonio, TX on Monday, September 17th, 2018 at 9:30 AM. The memorial service and reception will follow at 11:00 AM at Wayside Chapel in San Antonio, TX.
