Obituary for Billy "B.J." Joe Studdard

Billy "B.J." Joe Studdard, 73, of Covington, passed away on Wednesday, October 25th, 2017. Born in Porterdale, GA to the late George and Annie Studdard. Billy was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elizabeth Studdard and brother, Jerry Studdard. He grew up in the Covington Mill community as a young boy, then moved to Decatur, GA for some time, and ended up back to his roots in the Conyers/Covington area. Billy was a loving, caring, hardworking man. He served in the U. S. Army, toured Korea as a Military Policeman. Billy received a National Defense Service Medal, a marksman M-14 Rifle Badge and a Good Conduct Award. He also worked and retired as a United States Postal Service Worker as a Postman in Decatur, GA for many years. Billy was a loving husband, father, papaw, brother.

Billy is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and William Lucas of Covington; granddaughters, Ember Lucas and Ava Lucas, both of Covington; brother and sister-in-law, George Larry and Betty Studdard of Covington; aunt, many cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of long-time friends.

Funeral Service for Mr. Studdard will be held Sunday, October 29th, 2017 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow at Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery in Lithonia. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 28th, 2017 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Joyce Byrd (Slaughter)

So sad to hear of Billy's passing; he was a classmate of mine for 12 years, beginning at Covington Mill School.
