George, you and I were neighbors for years. You my brother and I used to play Monopoly under the big dogwood tree at my house in the hot days of summer with my mom delivering cool aid and lunch. I remember the day I learned you were gone and then my brother Joe years later. I am posting this so people know we were good friends and enjoyed a small part of our lives together.
George was brilliant. He could concentrate simultaneously and fully on more than one thing. I doubt if I've ever met anyone else who could. He was always reading in class. Once one of the teachers in Katonah Elementary School thought she'd catch him not paying attention and make an example for the rest of us. She called on him with a question. He looked up from his book and, after a momentary pause, answered her correctly, but not smugly. After that all our teachers right through high school would say, "Everybody look up here and pay attention -- except George."
I saw him last at our 20th reunion, when his health was already problematic. I felt very sad when he died. George was a very kind person and I miss him.
