Des Moines - Ed Hegner passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. He was born on October 4, 1943 in Elgin IL to Edward D. and Edith Hegner.
He grew up in Fox River Grove IL and graduated from Crystal Lake High School. He got his degree in Psychology from North Illinois University and later received his MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management.
His business career started in personnel at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago where he met his future wife, Sara. They married in 1971 and 1972 they were transferred to Des Moines IA. Ed retired as an appraiser at AIG Insurance in West Des Moines IA.
Ed was passionate about bicycling, exercising, studying the financial markets, walking the dogs and feeding the wildlife in his yard. Over the years, he was proud to have successfully competed in the Chicago Marathon, the Ironman Triathlon, RAGBRAI, Dam to Dam, Iowa Games, Iowa Senior Games, and Iowa Senior Olympics.
He is survived by his wife, Sara; daughter, Cara of Des Moines; brother Ronald (Linda) Hegner of MN; nephew, Ronnie (Shannon) Hegner and family of MN; niece, Lindsay Hegner of MN; and his canine companions, Carley and Turner. Ed was preceded in death by his parents.
