CRYSTAL LAKE – Mike Moony, 70, of Crystal Lake, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013, after a two and a half year battle with cancer.
He was born Aug. 8, 1942, to Richard Moony and Helen White in Woodstock.
Mike graduated in 1961 from Crystal Lake Community HighSchool, served in the United States Marine Corps for three years and worked numerous sales jobs from the Northwestern Railroad, to Blandin Paper Company to Midwest Business Forms
He is probably best remembered for his work in the restaurant business. 
He opened numerous restaurants in Colorado and California and tended bar at such establishments as the Aspen Mine Co. and Bullys of La Jolla. 
More recently, he tended bar at the Northwest Passage in Cary, Deeters in Harvard and Labemis in Crystal Lake.
He retired in 2009 and moved to Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his brother, Tom (Kathy) of Cary; and two nephews; John (Amelia) of Chicago and Tim of Cary.
