In Memory

Barbara Thurow (Poehner)

Barbara Thurow (Poehner)

It has come to my attention that Barb Thurow Poehner passed away in July of 2012.

Barb was a friend from our Immanual Lutheran days.  She attended the school while I was a "public school" kid that attended the confirmation classes and was involved with the youth group.  Being a member of the Walther League youth group made for lasting friendships and great memories.

Barb was married to her husband Jerry for 40 years.  They had three daughters, Stacy, Stephanie, and Angela, and one son, Andrew.  There were many Thurow families in Crystal Lake back in the day, mostly members of Immanual and all related in one way or another.

Please share your memories of Barb on our memorial page.

Barb was so courteous and so very smart. She and I attended Immanuel Lutheran. When a school contest was held to name our school mascot, she won with Panthers. She was short in stature, but quite tall in character and love for everyone she encountered.

I remember Barb very well, we became good friends.  She was always happy and full of smiles.  I too attended Immanuel Lutheran grade school with Barb and we were confirmed together.  I'm certain it will be difficult for her family to be without her, hoping they have many memories for comfort.

Such sad news!  Barb was a good friend. Always full of spunk!  I enjoyed the whole Thurow family and wish them all well. Too manny classmates are passing.  We seemed to have just buried our parents and now each other.

Barb lived a couple houses up from my house. Spent a lot of time in the summer in grade school making doll clothes out of fabric scraps her mom would give us. She went to Lutern School so didn't see a lot of her during the school year but got together whenever we could during school. She was a really good friend.
