Jan Carol Johnson Obituary
Born: February 8, 1950 in Chicago, IL
Died: February 11, 2026 in Crystal Lake, IL
Jan Carol Johnson, age 76, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026, with her family by her side.
Jan was born on February 8, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, to David and Lorraine Johnson. She was raised in a loving family and was one of six siblings, growing up alongside Leslie, Gail, David, Douglas, and Kim.
She graduated in 1968 from Crystal Lake Community High School. As a teenager, Jan was active in 4 H, raising Black Angus steers and winning Reserve Grand Champion Steer at the McHenry County Fair.
Jan was a lifelong lover of rock and roll music and delighted in sharing her passion with friends and family, always introducing them to the newest and best bands. She attended concerts by many legendary artists, including seeing the Beatles at their first concert in Chicago-often fondly recalling that she could hardly hear the music over the excitement of the screaming fans.
She worked for many years as an administrative assistant, first at Washington National Insurance Company and later at the Quaker Oats Company. After retiring, Jan unselfishly devoted herself to caring for her parents during their later years.
Jan was a talented and creative artist with a wonderful sense of humor. She especially enjoyed creating hand drawn cards for birthdays, holidays, and special occasions, blessing family and friends with her thoughtfulness and creativity.
Jan was a devout Christian and active church member whose faith was reflected quietly in the way she lived her life. She will be remembered most for her beautiful soul-always cheerful, always kind, always smiling and thinking the best of everyone. Her warmth, generosity, and compassion touched all who knew her, and everyone she met felt welcome in her presence. She was truly loved by all.
Jan is survived by her sisters, Leslie Heininger and Kim Dzwonkiewicz (Mark); her brothers, David Johnson (Teresa) and Douglas Johnson (LaRita); and her many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents and sister Gail Schumacher.
A Celebration of Life is planned for a future date. Details will be shared with family and friends when arrangements are finalized.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jan's memory to a charity of the donor's choice.
