Dr. Dennis Birenbaum passed away on Friday Oct. 14th after battling a long illness. He was born on March 8th, 1947, in Dallas to Florence and Buddy Birenbaum. Dennis, known to many as "Dr. B" spent the last 43 years of his life passionately taking care of hundreds of patients with cancer and blood-related diseases. Dennis attended Hillcrest High School, Southern Methodist University and Universidad Autonama de Guadalajara School of Medicine. He conducted his medical internships at the University of Michigan Medical School and Henry Ford Hospital; his residency at Tulane University in New Orleans; and his fellowship at University of Texas Medical School in Houston. Dennis, an avid golfer who traveled around the world with his friends to play at the world's best golf courses, included Pebble Beach, a magical place that captured his heart. With his love of the game coupled with his love of his alma mater SMU, he was a dedicated supporter of the SMU golf team and the school's annual Payne Stewart Cup. He is survived by his two sons, Michael Birenbaum and his wife Hilly of Dallas and Charles Birenbaum of Los Angeles, CA; his brother Dr. Robert Birenbaum of Dallas and his sister-in-law Carolyn; four nephews, three nieces, a handful of cousins, and 13 grand nephews and nieces, all who loved him dearly. Dennis was preceded in death by both of his parents and his sister, Betsy Coplin. A celebration of his life will take place on Thursday, October 20th at Beth Torah Synagogue at 720 W.
