James (Jim) Baxter Johnston passed away October 25, 2021 surrounded by loved ones. He was born on January 24, 1947 in Dallas Texas to James Richard and Norma Teer Johnston.
Jim grew up in Dallas, Texas and attended Hillcrest High School. His first job was selling newspapers when he was 10. As a youngster he was intrigued by all things electric and obtained a ham radio operator’s license when he was 11 years old. For a while he worked as a television repairman but for 37 years Jim’s profession was designing integrated circuits. Jim grew up with a love of speed and could often be found at Green Valley Raceway or Dallas International Motor Speedway. His signature car was Corvette of which he owned over a dozen in his lifetime. An avid fisherman, Jim fished at least once a day for 22 years at his home on Moss Lake in Gainesville, Texas. For years he was a part of a group of fishermen called the River Rats who fished on Lewisville Lake and down the Trinity River. Jim loved America and RV’d across the nation until diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. His goal of seeing all 48 states was almost achieved and he did travel about in Canada. After moving to Valley View, Texas Jim enjoyed playing poker with neighborhood friends.

He is survived by Tommye, his wife of 46 years; granddaughters Meagan and husband Tyler of Washington and Kaitlyn of Washington; great-granddaughters Khloe, Lucy, and Layla all of Washington; sisters Martha of Ohio and Susan of Florida. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, two brothers-in-law;two sisters-in-law and friends too numerous to mention. And, lastly, he is survived by his beloved dog, Freddie.
