Charles Wayne Wallis of Killeen passed from this life on September 30, 2021.

Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday October 14 at Harper Talasek Funeral Home in Temple.

Charles was born on December 12, 1946, in Dallas to Taylor and Eleanor Wallis. He graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1965. He then enrolled at Texas A&M University where he graduated with a BS in AgEco in 1969. Charles was also in the Corps of Cadets and a member of Company C-2.

He received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army Signal Corps upon his graduation.

He then spent two years on active duty, one years as the S-4 officer of the 142 Signal Battalion, 2^nd Armored Division at Fort Hood and one year as the Signal Officer of 3^rd Battalion, Saigon Support Command in Vietnam where he received his Bronze Star Medal.

Upon his departure from active-duty Charles began his thirty plus year career with the U.S. and Texas Departments of Agriculture where he served as a fruit and vegetable statistician and a survey statistician.

While working full time for the Agriculture Departments, Charles continued his military career part time in the Texas Army National Guard for 20 years. He served in the 36^th Separate Infantry Brigade, 249^th Signal Battalion, 49^th Armored Division Artillery and 136^th Signal Battalion in Temple.

Charles was an active member of the Texas Jaycees in the 1970’s serving as a President of the Austin Jaycees and as a District Director and Area Vice President of the Texas Jaycee’s.

After retirement he spent is time antiquing and enjoying the cool weather and beautiful scenery in Colorado in the summers.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents. Those left to cherish his memory are his Aunt Carolyn Rush of Dallas, many cousins all over Texas and many best friends forever.
