Mr. Ronnie Dyer, 53, of Dalton, departed this life Wednesday evening, March 8, 2006, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Ronnie was born Nov. 18, 1953, in Whitfield County, son of the late Kenneth Dyer and Betty Jean Henry Dyer Akins. Ronnie went to work with the Dalton Fire Department on April 13, 1980, and was the lieutenant in charge of Station 2, Battalion 2 on Abutment Road. He was a member of Mount Rachel Baptist Church and had previously attended Maple Grove Baptist Church.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Thelma Virginia (Shoemaker) Dyer of the residence and would have celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary May 2, 2006; son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie Lynn Jr. and Shannon Dyer of Dalton; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Floyd Williams of Dalton and Denise and Rick Rhinehart of LaFayette; a niece that he thought of as his own, Lorie and James Basler; grandchildren, Christopher Williams, Kade and Hunter Stephens, Chris Cannon and Timothy, Isaac and Trinity Basler; grandmother, Willie Mae Dyer of Dalton; brothers, Randy Singleton of Dalton and Kenneth Alan Dyer of Chatsworth; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law that he thought of as his sisters, Mildred and Billy Bailey, Mary and Kelley Painter, Frances and Ronald Ensley, Johnnie and Scott Cannon, Earl and Maybelle Shoemaker, Daniel and Jan Shoemaker and James Shoemaker; special aunt and uncle, Herschel and Frances Parson; several other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins and all of his friends at the Dalton Fire Department and Whitfield EMS who were a very big part of his family.
Services are today at 2 p.m. at Eleventh Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Morgan and the Rev. Marty Greene officiating.
Burial will be in Elrod Cemetery at Welcome Hill. Pallbearers will be Grant Jenkins, Johnny Davis, Keith Locke, Clyde McDaniel, Anthony Hughes, Darryl Sprayberry, Darryl Mathis and Anthony Johnston. Members of the Dalton Fire Department and Whitfield EMS will serve as honorary pallbearers.
