Coach Kenneth "Ken" Wilburn

Ken Wilburn served two years in the U. S. Army as a part of the 82nd Airborne Division. He later served four years with the U. S. Air Force and was stationed in England during the Korean War. Ken earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Tennessee-Wesleyan College where he played as a lineman and kicker for the football team. He then completed a year of graduate studies at LSU.

Ken worked for the FBI for two years in Kansas City and came back to Georgia to be a teacher. He taught mathematics in Murray and Whitfield counties for a total of 42 years. In addition to teaching, he worked as a deputy for Murray County, served on the Chatsworth City Council, and was the Chatsworth Police Commissioner. He was also an officer with the American Legion. Ken loved the game of football and coached teams for Dalton City, Whitfield County, and Murray County Schools. He also enjoyed spending time in his garden.

He was preceded in death by his father, Minis Wilburn; mother, Lee Vada Wilburn; and brother, Jack Wilburn.

Survivors include his wife, Nell Wilburn of Chatsworth; son and daughter-in-law, Mike Wilburn & Donna Wilburn of Crandall; daughter and son-in-law, Stacey Wilburn House & Terry Ryan House of Athens; sister, Katherine Wilburn of Gulf Breeze, FL; grandchildren, Taylor and Haylie House; nieces; nephews; and cousins.
