Mr. Warner George Holloway, 89, of Dalton, passed away at Wood Dale Health Care on October 15, Warner Holloway2012.

He was preceded in death by his parents,  Mary and George Holloway and ten brothers and sisters.                                                                               

Mr. Holloway was born and raised in Gilmer County, Georgia, where he began his lifelong career as an educator in a one-room schoolhouse.  After serving in World War II in the Army Air Corp, he received his Master's Degree in teaching at Peabody College.  He then returned to teach at Gilmer County High School where he also served as principal.  He continued his career as teacher and principal at Antioch Elementary, Eastbrook High School and Southeast High School.  After his retirement, he pursued his hobbies of farming, raising cattle, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.                                                                                 

He served as a minister in Churches of Christ in North Georgia and Tennessee.  He taught Bible classes and also served as an elder at Central Church of Christ where he shared his love of the Lord with quiet wisdom. He always had a hug and a joke to share.

Mr. Holloway played a major role in establishing the North Georgia Bible Camp, where he was affectionately known as “Sugar Bear”. He was also instrumental in establishing the Greater Atlanta Christian School.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Charlene Holloway; son and daughter-in-law Bruce and Luanne Holloway, daughter and son-in-law Jane and Bobby King, and daughter and son-in-law Sonya and Michael Mueller.  His grandchildren are Jennifer Cooper, Philip King, Cody Holloway, Tyler Holloway, Koby Mueller, Sasha Mueller, and Lauren Claiborne.  His great-grandchildren are Tristan Cooper, Madison and Ada Holloway, Aaden and Ella Holloway, and Cole and Katie King.  He is also survived by his brother, Clay, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Love Funeral Home with Doug Couch, Brian Collins, and Ross Jordan officiating.

Burial will follow in Stanley Cemetery in Blue Ridge with the grandsons serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home today from 4 to 9 p.m.
