We will never forget Johnny Woods. What a legend. King of salt creek and thumping barrels at whiteman’s. We all shared some of the sweetest days of our lives down at that beach, long summer days that went on forever.  Johnny on his purple board. Making the final at the summer bash, etc etc. I remember his mom picking us up from junior high, driving us to the shores, to the beach. Me crammed in the back of the little Mercedes coup, her smoking a cigarette … bygone era. Mostly I just remember the endless days, the endless waves. Last time I saw Johnny was over Christmas time, 2007, a few days before he passed. We were in the water at creek, and had not seen each other in a few years. He saw me first and had that coy knowing smile he often wore. We chatted a bit, then a wave came. He let me have it. I love you brother. See you soon.
