During our senior year, Mike, Jack Mitchell and i found what was supposed to be a real haunted house. We decided to go exploring and spend the night in the house even though it was a school night. Not surprisingly, the house was not haunted and when we woke up the next morning and were getting reading to go to school, we had a brilliant idea to skip school and go into Athens and hang out at the Varisty. On the way into Athens, Mike's Mother passed us going in the opposite direction. She recognized Mike's car, and Mike saw her. She turned around, caught up to us and we knew we were in big trouble. Mike pulled over, got out of the car when his Mother pulled up behind us. Jack and i could see her yelling at him. As Jack and i sat in the car, we were listening to the radio.  Simon and Garfunkel's Mrs. Robinson was playing. As we were caught red handed, we headed back to shool. I remember it like it was yesterday. Very fond memory. I am sad that i did not get to see Mike again. God Bless you Mike.

Ken Mathis spoke with Mike's sister Marie and this message is from the conversation. . .

Mike died of kidney failure caused by his diabetes. Apparently, he went downhill quite quickly as he ignored the symptoms for some time before going to the doctor.

He never married, no family other than his 3 siblings. His horse was his kid.. Marie said he loved to travel and worked a Home Depot to pay for his travels. Been to many countries, lived to travel to new places. As a kid, his family moved around a lot as his dad was in the Army. Spent a long time in Denmark when he was younger, learned to speak French fluently as well as English…..never knew that about him.
