David Dale Haugen "Dave," 57, passed away on May 28, 2011 at home of complications of pancreatic cancer.

Please join his family and friends for a memorial service to celebrate a life well lived. The service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, at Iles Funeral Homes-Dunn's Chapel. The memorial service will be followed by a casual reception in the Atrium Room at Dunn's Chapel.

A visitation with family will be held on Wednesday evening, June 1st from 5 to 8 p.m.

Dave was born on June 4, 1953 in Davenport, Iowa.

He attended Scott Community College and then Des Moines Community College (DMACC). Eventually he found he was a people person and had a gift for communicating with other and decided to go to Barber School. He worked in the downtown Des Moines area as a barber for 35 years. For the past nine years he owned and operated the Downtown Professional Haircutters Barber Shop at 801 Grand. Many of his customers have been with him for more than 25 years.

Dave completed a long time goal, by returning to take classes at DMACC part-time and received his AS degree December, 2010.

He was an avid runner most of his life and began running competitively at Davenport West High School. His true passion was running and he placed in many races throughout the state including 10 K's, half-marathons and Dam to Dam. Everyone who knew him knew he was an avid runner and many will remember seeing him running in the Waterbury and Drake Neighborhoods. He also enjoyed biking and swimming and competed in six triathlons, the last of which was the Des Moines HyVee Triathlon in 2008. Dave also enjoyed fitness classes and taught spinning at the Des Moines YMCA for many years.

Dave also enjoyed hiking and cultural events at the Des Moines Civic Center, the Symphony and going to the Des Moines Opera.

Dave and his wife, Julia, are members and served as presidents for two years of the Castle Club Ballroom Dance Club. Waltz and Swing were two of his favorite dances.

Dave was a member of the Windsor Heights Lutheran Church for 32 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Edith Haugen and one sister, Mary Haugen.

He will be missed most especially by his wife, Dr. Julia Goodin.

He will also be missed by his former wife, Sandy Haugen and his two children, Eric Haugen of Rochester, New York and Kelli Dever (Chad) and their two grandchildren, Logan and Peyton Dever all of Des Moines, Iowa.

He is also survived by two sisters, Sally Poston (Junior, deceased), Connie Franklin (Tom) and two brothers, Jerry Haugen (Becky) and Rick Haugen, all of Davenport, Iowa; one sister, Joan Wail (Jack) of Burlington, Iowa and her twin brother, Alan Haugen (Linda) of Norfolk, Virginia.

The family would like to express a sincere thanks to the physicians and health care professionals at the John C. Stoddard Cancer Center, especially Dr. Tom Buroker, who provided excellent medical care, and to the family and friends who comforted him during his illness.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Dave's name to the Windsor Heights Lutheran Church.

My sympathies go out to his wife and family. I remember Dave fondly. I always did have a fondness for "Track Guys" My gang were sort of track groupies. We had a "date" once - bowling. He was a fun guy. I am happy to see he lived such a full life and was so active. (in track still).

I remember Dave as a pole vaulter at Frank L Smart. We were traded for each other

in Colt league.
