From the Times-Democrat, Sunday, June 16, 1974, Davenport-Bettendorf, Iowa:

U.S. Air Force Sgt. Bradley Koch, 20, formerly of 6248 Brady St., Davenport, was killed instantly late Friday night [June 14, 1974] in a one-car accident on Interstate 40 in North Carolina as he was enroute home to Arlington, Texas, from a training program at Fort Lee, Petersburg, Virginia.

Koch was traveling west on I-40 when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel, authorities said. His auto missed a slight curve and left the highway, eventually coming to rest on railroad tracks about 30 to 40 feet below road level. 

Sgt. Koch was stationed at Randolph Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, and was going to spend a two-day leave with his family before returing to the base. 

Sgt. Koch graduated from West high School, Davenport, in 1971, and immediately entered the U.S. Air Force.

He was born in Preston, Iowa [July 13, 1953]. 

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Koch, Arlington, Texas; a sister, Mrs. Church Schellhor, Fairbanks, Alaska; brothers, Dennis & Rick, both at home; and grandmothers, Mrs. Bertha Koch, Lake Alfred, Florida, and Mrs. Alma Schechel, Maquoketa, Iowa. 

Services are pending at Moore Funeral Home, Arlington.

Services for Sgt. Bradley Koch, 20, formerly of 6248 Brady St., Davenport, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Moore Chapel, Arlington, Texas. Burial will be in Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington.
