LECLAIRE — A Memorial Gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life Clayton L. Maxfield, 62, a resident of LeClaire, will be Thursday, July 2, 2015, noon until 1:30 p.m., at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main St., downtown Davenport. There will be a brief tribute and special songs of remembrance at 1:30 p.m. Following Clay’s wish, the rite of cremation has been accorded.

Clay died unexpectedly Saturday, June 27, 2015, at his residence in LeClaire following declining health.

Clayton Lawrence Maxfield was born Feb. 4, 1953, in Davenport, a son of Lawrence Simpson and Donna Jean (Clark) Maxfield. He graduated from West High School Class of 1971.

Most recently, Clay has been a bus driver in the Pleasant Valley School District for Durham Bus Services.

Clay enjoyed the simpler things in life, and lived simply! He could be found sitting near the Mississippi River contemplating the meaning of life, or just casting a line fishing. He liked to ride around on his motorcycle, admiring nature and the landscape he was passing by. He had a special love of animals; he never met a pet he didn’t love. He was known for finding just the right stray dog for many of his family and friends; if they couldn’t keep ’em, he would!

Memorials can be made in his name to the Kings Harvest Pet Rescue.

Those left to honor his memory include his mother, Donna Maxfield; a brother, Jeff (Patty) Maxfield, all of Davenport; a niece, Christie (Jackie) Aguilera, Weston, Fla.; a nephew, Josh (Angie) Maxfield, Davenport; a special cousin (and “little sis”), Lorrie Long (Paul Wakeland), and her children, Cody and Travis, Davenport; his longtime companion, Janet Daugherty, LeClaire; and his beloved canine companion, Jack.

He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Maxfield. May they rest in peace.
