Hey Tara,

We've been to the Kalahari waterpark in Ohio twice. It's a blast!

Tracey,
Is that the one by Cedar Point? How is the hotel there? That is a really big park, right? Thinking when the kids are a little bigger/older for this one, if that is the really big park that I think it is.

We have Great Wolf Lodge out here is PA. It is an indoor water park. A lot of fun. It is in the Pocono's and so you get water park and skiing at the same time. Kids love it...

Yes it is big and it is by Cedar Point.

They have two sections, the old and the newer both accessable in the same giant room. They have a wave pool and loads of slides for both older and younger kids. They have a playscape loaded with water guns and a giant bucket that fills up and dumps down the side of it. They have a surfing/kneeboard ride for the older kids and adults. My husband loved it. I tried it too and it's a blast.
They have cabanas you can rent for the day right inside the park with loungers and a tv and I think a small fridge so your little ones can catch a nap mid-day or a snack without having to trudge back to your room. They allow you to bring all the outside food you want and they have at least two restaurants and of course my kids favorite, the sweets/ice cream shop in the lobby.

It accomadates everyone from infant to adult. There are loads of lifeguards on duty too. It is also very clean considering how many people they get in there in a day.

There is a hotel attatched to the park but many people come just for the day. Oh yeah, there is also an arcade, like a giant Chuck E Cheese, so the kids can have fun after being in the water.

It is one of the best family vacations we've had. I recommend it.

If you go during warm weather, they have an outdoor pool too. The hotel is rather nice and they have a nice spa where you can get a massage and/or facial while your husband is with the kids! :)

My poor son has to get another set of tubes for his ears & this time they want to take out his adenoid glands. Geeze I am so tired of him being sick, but so scared for him to have surgery. I know that it is a minor outpatient procedure, but well lets face it folks...My dad died during a outpatient surgery so I am SCARED TO FUCKED DEATH OF THIS SHIT NOW! I do realize that I am being a freakin' sissy...but I just can't not take anymore loss, or fear of loss. I know that this forum has gotten to be a little deep at times...but hey I feel like this place is my personal talking back diary...LOL So please help get through this.

My oldest, Bradley had his adnoids and tonsils out when he was five or six. Here was my experience.

We went through the admitting process, the nurse gave him some meds to make him feel happy and a bit sleepy. We said "see ya later" and he walked back to the OR with the nurse. We went to the waiting room and before I could find a magazine I wanted to read, open it up and read the table of contents, Brad's doctor showed up. I though he was going to say there was a problem and that they couldn't do the surgery. Instead, he said he was done and that we could go sit with Brad until he woke up, which he did within 5 minutes. They gave him a popsicle (red or orange can't remember) which he devoured and then barfed up and we left.

Easy-peasy. Now when we go on vacation, we don't have to have him sleep in the bathtub due to his snoring! Not joking about that!

I assume your son's frequency of illness is the reason for the adnoids removal. The adnoids are part of the immune system. No doubt they get swollen when he is sick. My son had large adnoid/tonsils and it was effecting his sleep and his speech.

It affects his ears most of all. He does not snore, other then a tiny hiss when he is sick. This will be his 2nd set of tubes...first were when he was 2, & pretty much 4 hours in the hopsital for 5 minutes of surgery. He does have a little naselly voice.

My concern is the other son has been right behind him with the same problems this time. Just about every kid in preschool & kindergarten is been in & out of school this year. I just don't want him to get another procedure done if it's not needed? His brother has not had a history of earaches until just recently, but he hasn't had the problems since he had the tubes first put in @2, but now they are out. He does however have VERY BAD ear wax, always has even with tubes.

Thank you Tracey...I know you are one to not go under the knife if not needed...so I just really needed your input!

Yes, you know it's a touchy subject but I really do believe that sugar plays a big role in the ears.

When I was a kid I got frequent earaches. Even as an adult, my upper sinuses, ears/nose/throat are what affect me more than any other when it comes to being sick. I know two things; one is that if I over do the sugar, I get achy ears and two, if I avoid sugar, I don't get achy ears. I have found the same to be true with my kids.

It is tough because all my teeth are sweet-tooths except for one in the back which is just for vegetables. :) I don't keep candy in the house and usually when we eats sweets, it is something I have made. I don't like processed food and try not to keep that in the house either. Notice I say "keep it in the house" which means we do eat junk food on occasion and my kids do get candy but I try to limit the amount of nasty stuff by not keeping it in the house.

Also, we don't drink pop except once in a while. I don't drink it at all. I can't take all the sugar and the chemicals that go into the diet stuff is really scary. But that is my opinion. Granted it is a well researched opinion but still just my opinion.

Sorry but on a totally different subject... Not sure if this place still exists or not but what was the name of the place that had outdoor concerts and I think you could ski there in the winter. It has been making me crazy all weekend...

I went to a lot of outdoor concerts at Pine Knob...it was kind of bunny hill-like!

02/09/09 07:19 PM #1908

Tracey Ulrich (Dawson)

Yes it was Pine Knob now it is called the DTE Energy Music Theatre. It still looks the same as in the old days with the pavillion and lawn seats on the hill. It's in Clarkston right next door to me here in Holly.

I was there this past autumn to see the Gypsy Kings and before that we saw Ringo Star's All Star Band and The Doobie Brothers.

Tracey, I am lauging my butt off at your "sweet and vegetable teeth" Especially since I am sitting here after an hour long appointment for one of my teeth, yesterday. Had another worked on last Monday. My teeth have become extremely sensitive and that is what they were fixing, I had an exposed root in one and my dentist thought I would need a root canal but he said that yesterday was my lucky day and he was able to fix it by doing something else. I can't stand the dentist, I would rather go through child birth than to go to the dentist! So, thanks for the laugh as I needed it although, it hurts to even to move my jaw, today!

Teeth aching is NO fun!!! Amazing how such a small spot on the body can elicit such an amazing amount of pain. I am glad you didn't need the root canal.
I remember what you said about the no Novicane treatments you experienced as a kid. Yuck

I was getting ready for work on Monday, 2/2, and royally f'ed up my back. Up to that point, I had a herniated disk (verified by an MRI), but the pain was being managed by percosen (sp?). Anyway, I was tying my shoe, and felt the worst pain. It took me almost 10 minutes to walk up two flights of stairs to our bedroom. I stayed home for a couple of days, and finally had an ambulance take me to emergency on Wednesday. I couldn't take it any more, and wasn't able to sit in a car. The new drugs (via IV) took the pain away. I went for another MRI in the afternoon, and they found that a piece of 'disk' broke off and was 'floating' around. It was hitting the sciatic nerve - ouch! I stayed in the hospital and they performed surgery on Friday. I went home on Saturday, and will be home for a few weeks. The nuerosurgeon said surgery was the only option. I believe him. I go back to see him on 2/19. We close on our new home at the end of March, so I guess it's good to get this over w/. I'm sending this from my blackberry, and don't have too much else to do, so you may 'see' much more of me. Thanks for thinking of me.

Wow Robert. Sounds like you had Spondylolsis followed by Spondylolisthesis. I've studied it but I've never known anyone with it. How cool! For me obviously not for you. Sorry.

Take care and get lots of rest.

Play some Abba or something. :)

Bizarre but true.
My husband calls me from Mexico City last night to say he is checking in to his hotel and The Doors are there in front of him minus Jim Morrison of course. They are staying at the same hotel. Apparently they are still touring and are playing this weekend in Mexico City.
