Leonard was a good guy in school, a big, strong guy. A good guy to have as a friend. He was already listed as deceased by the time of our 10th reunion in 1976. I don't know any of the details, as to how or when he passed, just that he sure didn't have much of a chance at life, being gone before he even hit 30.
Enjoyed your nice comments, Bill. Yes, Big Len was a good guy. He lived on Mayburn, a few blocks north of me. Knew him from grade school. He did indeed have some challenges -- personal, home life, etc. -- as time went by, but he was always upbeat, pleasant and looking for a good time. I recall Leonard having a couple of brothers, but have no info on them. It's funny, when I think of a particular classmate usually one thing immediately pops into mind. With Leonard, it's that big smile of his.
I remember Leonard well....he was always tormenting me in school but he did always have that big smile on his face. I didn't meet him until we got to Bryant JHS. He left us way too soon.
Ha! That's right...he did indeed sport an impressive head of hair. Kind of a Harold Nelson-type 'do' but wilder and minus the Alberto VO5. I'm sure Leonard would have grown a great beard. In elementary school we used to eat lunch at his house sometimes, the obligatory grilled cheese and tomato soup. Sadly, sometime in the later high-school years or shortly after, Leonard received a head injury after falling from a moving car while riding on the hood or trunk. Just horseplay, I think, but a serious incident. Not sure if that was the whole cause of some of his problems, or just exacerbated them. Interesting memories of a Mayburn buddy.

I remember he had a wondrous head of hair.... I was kinda jealous of it even back then... ;-)
