I had emailed Johnny several times asking if he was going to attend the DHS 55th. Getting no response, I called his business today, Lone Star Bolt, to talk to him. I reached one of his sons, who told me Johnny had passed away last May with cancer. He was a very private man and told very few people that he was terminal. If you're male have a simples 5 minute PSA blood test. It may save your life. Johnny was my best friend at DHS. He and I ran, double dated and had a lot of fun together. We hunted geese, quail, rabbits, ducks...anything that was legal and some that were not. We had the same birthdate, July 25, 1941. Johnny and I painted the Water Tower together. We got small roles (stage hands) in the DHS Senior Scrambles. Miffed, we charged the paint, brushes, etc. to DHS at one of the local hardware stores for the job. We climbed the tower in the dark. The wind was howling. Johnny told me last reunion that he could still hear it singing in the wires. As you know it made the front page of the Decatur Dailey the next day and the entire Senior Class (us) was called into the Auditorium and grilled, one by one. Public opinion was so positive; everybody thought it was great, and Mr. Jenkins and his minions let us go. Dottie, unfortunately, is suffering from alsheimers, in a care facility and is unable to be with us for the DHS 55th Johnny was a great guy, had a wonderful singing voice and personality. I will miss him. We all will. Skip Cox
