In the late '40's, Dickie and his family lived on 7th Avenue, right behind Rand Bryan's house on 6th Avenue, in the 700 block. I lived on third Avenue in the 800 block. We were all Gordon-Bibbers with the same teachers. When we were old enough to roam on our on, sometimes Dickie and his little brother Rod would venture over to my neighborhood to play (we had open fields behind our house that claimed as our personal play grounds), and sometimes I would go the their house and Randy would join us. I do not remember Randy ever coming to Third Avenue,(I think his mother was strict and did not let him wander around) and his family move away from 6th Avenue while we we still in grammar school.
Dickie was more athletic than I ever was and could hit a soft ball a mile. In high school he was a member of the football team, and was a tough end if I remember correctly.
As in so many cases I didn't see Dickie after graduation but I spoke to him and Rod by phone once in awhile later on. Like so many of our classmates, he was a good boy so I know he had to turn out to be a good man. RFA
