Dotty lived down the street from me when we were in the 4th grade at G-B. One day in the summer we went to the Princess Theater. She was the first girl I kissed and I was her first boy. Wasn’t too long after that her family moved across town. That ended our great romance. I think her parents thought we were going to get married if they stayed there ( just kidding). I was thrilled when I heard she and Johnny got married. Maybe then her parents quit worrying we would.
She was small of statue, but had a giant heart.

Like Jerry said, Dotty was short, probably not quite five feet tall, but when she smiled she was more like 6'1'' and she smiled easily and often.
In the good old days at DHS, many, if not most students came to school well before the home room bell rang to participate in an important social ritual--walking the halls. There were two general classes of participants: the socially well adjusted types who, in groups of two or three, walked the halls and interacted with fellow students until the bell rang, and the awkward, shy types, like me, who stood by our lockers and admired the passing throng. As a senior, egged on by Charles Henson, I joined the marchers a time or two. One day, Chuck and I came face to face with Dotty and her group, and knowing she had no interest in being friends with a worm, I lowered my eyes to check my shoe laces as we passed. Big mistake! As we passed, Dotty suddenly whirled around and shouted " Richard Allen, you are the most stuck-up boy in this school," and marched on. I was stunned speechless, unable to utter the feeble alibi that I was not stuck up, just terrified of her cuteness. Being shy, I was never able to seek her out to explain or aplogize. I doubt that she ever thought of me after graduation, but if she did I'm sure she rememberd me as a first class jerk. Sorry Dotty--I thought you were terrific. Richard Allen
