A Memorial for Billy Kay, written by George Douthit
Billy was born and raised in Belle Mina, Alabama. His Father was the Railroad agent at the depot in Belle Mina. We spent many good times growing up together, playing, reading funny books and walking in the woods. One time I was walking down the sidewalk reading a funny book and walked right into a telephone pole. Needless to say I did not walk and read anymore. He attended Belle Mina United Methodist Church.
He transfered from Tanner School to DHS in his sophmore year. He then went to the University of Alabama. After graduating from U of A, he worked at a bank in Birmingham. Every weekend he came back to Belle Mina to spend all of the time he could in the woods and on the creek. The outdoors was his greatest hobby and just being at the home he grew up in. I guess you might say he was Belle Mina's Huck Finn.
