July 15, 1941 - June 14, 2014 Wayne Norton, age 72, resident of Birmingham, AL, and formerly of Decatur, AL, peacefully went to be in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, June 14, 2014. He was a man of great faith who touched the lives of all who knew him with his selfless and caring manner. He was a faithful and beloved husband of 50 years and a devoted and loving father. Wayne was preceded in death by his father, James Henry Norton. He leaves to cherish his memories wife, Janice Leopard Norton, Vestavia Hills, AL; mother, Opal Boyd Norton of Hoover, AL; son, Mark Norton (Sheila Norton), Hoover; daughter, Donna N. Saunders (John Saunders), Vestavia Hills; and grandchildren, Audrey LeAnne Norton (19), Ellie Bryant Norton (15), and Benjamin Henry Saunders (2). Wayne had 25 devoted years of service with South Central Bell and then worked at AT&T and Bechtel before retiring in 2008. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Birmingham. Family will receive friends Monday, June 16, 2014 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home (475 Cahaba Valley Rd., Pelham, AL 35124) from 5:30-7:30 p.m. A Memorial Service will be on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 in Ridout's Southern Heritage Chapel at 11 a.m. with visitation at 10 a.m. Dr. Bryant Strain will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be given to Big Oak Ranch (6000 Shelley Dr., Springville, AL 35146) and First Baptist Church of Birmingham- Building Fund (2209 Lakeshore Dr., Birmingham, AL 35209).
