In Mrs. Comer's second grade class at Gordon-Bibb, Marion was the smartest girl and Hugh Ogle was the smartest boy. Mrs. Comer held a contest one day to see which of them could count to 100 the fastest. The girls, of course, were all pulling for Marion, and the boys were naturally all for Hugh. Although Hugh was our fastest runner, Marion was the fastest counter, and won the contest. In grade school and high school Hugh did not lose at many things, but Marion put him in the shade that day. Marion was a very loving person. From the 5th grade on we were friends. After she married Carlos Sorto they moved a lot, Porto Rico, Spain, Italy, but each time they came home it was like we were teenagers again. Carlos was an accountant for Amco. Later they moved to Mississippi where they opened a Mexican Reatraunt. He was from El Salvador so it was like Lucy and Disi. She would make fun of the things he said and had to explain to us what he was really saying. He was so nice and a gentle man. He died several years before she did. Their oldest daughter, Melanie, called me and told me her mama had a stoke. We were able to still talk but she had several other strokes and had to be put in a Care Facility. My husband and I stil visited her in Tupelo. I made a Memory Book with lots of pictures from high school days, hoping it would jar her memory but it never did. I am still in touch with her children and I still miss her so bad.
