Hi-Did I hear that Zip Mendez had passed away a while back? I hope that I am mistaken on this. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

I don't know about Zip.  But, now that you mention it, I think I've heard something like that too.

Can anyone help us find out this information?

I have not heard anything, but I think on of the Dunn brothers would know.  They were close in high school.
