There was never a time when I saw Carl that he didn't have a smile on his face. A sweet Southern gentleman heart and soul. You were taken from us much too soon and I still have fond memories of when we were kids.
Carl and I joined the Marine Corp Togther in July 1977 .The world was a different place. A day never went by that you thought you we'nt going to get your butt kicked or die from exaustion. I was transfered to a different platoon that was short on the number of recruits.I never saw Carl again He went to his school I stayed at Paris Island for mine. By August 1978 I was already working at a corespondent school in Washington D.C when a Staff Sargent came by my desk and ask me to Death Delete this Marine from the school. It was Carl not knowing how to act at the time I just did it. We at this time didn't perform this action only on people who died of old age .
The next day I recieved a letter from home telling me what happened.
Carl's passing was a cold slap of reality. His infectious smile and his steadfast dedication to whatever task he was given made hearing the news that much harder. I was in the Navy doing work ups for my second deployment when I got the news and it was a shock on so many levels. You are not forgotten.
