Marshall Maxcy

Marshall Lee Maxcy, 61, died April 28, 2021 at his home in Starkville. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 8, at 2 p.m. at Osborn Community Church (formerly Osborn Presbyterian Church).
Marshall was born on October 23, 1959 in Deland, Florida, to Stewart and Stella “Jackie” Coleman Maxcy. He had one brother, Stewart Maxcy.

Marshall was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He joined the U.S. Navy at age 17 and, after graduating from Deland High School in 1977, served as a boatswain’s mate.
He earned an associate degree in small engine mechanics and had a career as a machinist. He also owned and operated a bait shop with his father for a few years in Daytona, Florida.
After residing in Florida throughout his childhood and much of his adult life, Marshall moved to Oktibbeha County, Mississippi, and married Amanda Matthews Maxcy in 2005. He was a loving and devoted husband, and he deeply loved his entire family. He also was a dedicated caregiver for his brother-in-law.
Marshall was a craftsman who enjoyed working with his hands. He was skilled at woodworking, repurposing antique furniture, and crafting custom knives and leatherwork. He also enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, and researching genealogy and unusual antiques.

Marshall is survived by his wife Amanda Maxcy, as well as his stepsons Aaron Orr and his wife Maria, and Matthew Orr and his wife Summer, and two grandchildren, Liam and Levi Orr.

Wow, I am stunned. Very sorry for the loss of a good man. I was in Scouts with Marshall and did not get to go as far as Eagle. I remember our camping and hiking trips with his dad along the Appalacian trail. We were in classes together and earned merit badges together. I bought my first swithchblade from him. His collection of knives was amazing. I haven't seen Marshall in a long time but cannot erase the memories and they are as if it was yesterday. Prayers and sympathy to the family and friends for this sad news.

I am so sad to read this news. Too many people are gone too soon. Prayers for his family. I know he was a good husband and father because he was a kind soul from the first moment I met him.

I was in Boy Scouts with Marshall. He was always a fun and friendly guy. Life is short folks.

So many years of school with Marshall. Because we often sat alphabetically, Marshall often sat right in front of me. I remember in first grade, in Mrs. O'Hare's class, we were partnered up for the Easter Parade show we did at an assembly. So many fun years at Dempsie Brewster. What a fun kid he was and I'm sure he grew up to be an amazing husband and father.

Marshall was in a few of my classes. He had a great sense of humor and fun loving. I am not surprised that he was a good father and husband. He was just a good person that was a pleasure to know even as a casual acquaintance.

There is an old Navy saying, "Any man can make rate, but only God can make a Boatswain's Mate!" Fair Winds and Following Seas, shipmate.

Marshall was a great guy and will be remembered by many, especially in the Class of 77. Condolences to his wife and family. It was a pleasure to have grown up with him. ♥️
