Dear Mr. Hodges-

You were truly a special teacher in many students' lives. The thing I will remember most about you is how evident it was that you loved and cared for every one of us. Though we frustrated you to no end, you always took an interest in us and tried to make us feel special. You had just the right balance between seriousness and humor.

Thanks for all you did.
Love,
Jackie Johnson

I have so many fond memories of Mr. Hodges. I've never forgotten two of his most repeated lines ... when the tardy bell rang, he'd yell "Insiders in, outsiders out!", and if he caught you doing something other than study or homework in class, he'd say "Render unto Ceasar what is Ceasar's!". He really did care about all of his students. I called him a few years ago when I was back in Turlock for a visit, and he was still the same old English teacher. He grilled me about what books I'd been reading and suggested I read "Rebecca" by Daphne Du Maurier.
