Members of the DHS Class of 1962 gathered at the Hilton Garden Inn for their 55th Reunion on April 28-29, 2017.  They were honored to be joined by three of their teachers, Verna Blood, Coach George “Corky” Bowling, and Roger Hanson.

MC Lee Lawrence thanked fellow Committee Members Jim Crout, Mary Sue Hoedebeck Wells, Judy Hughs Pearson, Richard Jones, Janie Kirk McCallie, Jerry Lummus, Carolyn Miller Lawrence, Larry McKinney, Mary Middleton, Mike Morgan, and June Taul Sloan for their work on the reunion.   Lee then led the group in a tribute to deceased classmates.

Johnnie Smith, a ’62 classmate and member of the Parkside Baptist Church, joined his fellow quartet members in three rousing numbers – which led to a standing ovation for the quartet - and also led the group in singing the DHS Alma Mater.  Other members of the quartet, the Common Bond, are Johnny Flowers, Don Guy, and Delbert Vest.

The theme of this reunion was Visit, Visit, Visit and Catch Up.  Before the banquet concluded, every person had been given the opportunity to stand and introduce themselves or their guest(s).  One of the activities was for class members to stand as their grade school was announced, and then give their name.  Another activity gave classmates who arrived in Junior High or High School years the opportunity to give their name and tell where they had previously lived and attended grade school.

So much fun was had that the class members suggested having a 57th reunion, rather than waiting till the 60th.  Plans for this are underway
