I remember in the 6th grade in Mr. Foster's class. Mr.Foster was asking Debra if she had ever got a spanking. Her reply was "Oh yeah". Mr. Foster then asked "what did you get it for?" She said, "I cut my Dad's cigar in two pieces with a pair of scissors." For some reason that stuck in my memory.
I remember sitting on the back pew at the First Baptist Church with Debra and some others and we got called down for talking during the sermon by Pastor John Ferguson. Regular amen corner members were Randall Freeman, Shelia Marlow, Jimmy McKee, Debra and me.
I loved Debra so much. One time I was at Debra's house and we were outside in the front yard. A car sped by and burned the rubber on their tires right in front of her house......Debra laid on the pavement and told me to go in and tell her mom that she got run over.....I did....NOT A GOOD IDEA!!!!! and her mom ran out of the house and started screaming....when she ran over to Debra, Debra got up and started laughing....Her mom was SO MAD at us.....I don't blame her....if I had been her mom, I would have beat that tar out of both of us.
Debra was a sweetheart -- I will never forget her and Connie T. stopping by my house one Saturday night -- there was my Dad sitting on the couch in his boxers -- he was so embarrased (still tells the story to this day)-- thing was, it did'nt seem to bother Debra & Connie -- they just carried on the conversation while he quickly exited to find his pants.
Another time when she was doing the high school column for the D.C. Press -- she told everyone (which included Barbara's parents and mine)that Barbara and I had had car trouble on Sat. night .... and we had to hitch a ride back to town ... I had to do a little explaining for that one....
Debra and I were married for 28 years. She and I cherished many years together with our wonderful daughters and friends. She will be missed by family and friends forever.
Debra was a great person! I really didn't know her very well until we were in Germany. We had a great time and she cracked me up all the time. I remember her braiding Christie's hair and Christie would look Oriental because her hair was sooooo tight! Their little Christie was one reason we decided we wanted kids. She was sooooo sweet. We had some fun times with Debra & Robert over there and I will also miss Debra.
