Georgette and I were side-by-side deskmates in Elaine P Bauer's 7th grade class at Central School. Georgette was the one who got me in not trouble exactly, but Mrs Bauer kept a close eye on me whenever G would start smiling. She had an explosive and strong laugh, too! She is one of my favourite memories of that year.
Ah yes, Central School (what I guess they would call the middle school now) right on Delsea Drive (RT. 47). Now there are sure some memories to come out of that place as well!
Ah, they've torn down the old brick school from the 1920s and replaced it with a sprawling early childhood center for the township. All the playground has been covered....even the part on the south where Mrs bauer was beaned by a foul ball one day during recess....
Who was that who wrote, "You Can never Go Home Again"? Very True. Wasen't it Miss Bauer that transferred to the High School when all of us transferred over to start our freshman year? She was kind of like a lifeline for us those first few days.
Elaine Bauer went with the class to eighth grade. For some reason she had me seated next to her desk and Georgette was on the other side of the desk. Could never figure out why she(Bauer) wanted me next to her. Did she think that I was a trouble maker?..
Georgette was the trouble maker,----- one of my most cherished comments is Mrs Bauer's note in my yearbook, on the back inside cover, ..." Dear Dave, it's a long time since 7 th and 8 th grade, remember dodge ball, 'The Torch', Georgette's softball hit, all the comps--- I miss you, luck in all you do" Sincerely, E P Bauer
Sad to report, in my conversation a week ago, One of the class members related that Georgette had a serious health issue, and spent many , many years in a nursing home, finally passing away in her late 50 s or early 60s, maybe some one knows the story
