Paula L Knabe, June 29, 1950 - August 31, 2013

Knabe, Dr. Paula L. DO, passed away August 31, 2013 in Wichita, Kansas. She was born June 29, 1950 in Emporia, Kansas.

Preceded in death by her grandparents William James & Lillian Mae Brockelman, Otis & Rosia Knabe and her father Paul E. Knabe, she is survived by her mother Izora S. Knabe of Rose Hill KS., her sister Sherril (Charles) Mapes of Wichita KS., brothers Otis (Cathy) Knabe of Derby KS and Leon (Jan) Knabe of Derby KS.

Paula spent the first 7 years of her life in Madison Kansas (Approx. 20 miles South of Emporia Kansas. She moved to Wichita KS with her family, where she went to Ray Woodman Elementary in Wichita for several years. She moved with her family again to Derby Kansas. Paula finished High School at Derby in 1968, and went on to Wichita State University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She then went on to graduate school at the University of Kansas for a Biochemistry Degree. Paula was accepted into medical school at the University of Health Sciences in Kansas City, Missouri (1973) graduating May 1977 as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine.

Paula went into solo family practice in Muskogen Michigan in 1977 specializing in OBGYN. She remained in private practice until becoming the Assistant Clinical Professor at Michigan State University, Department of Family Medicine, College of Osteopathic Medicine from 1994-1996. In 1996 she became the Associate Medical Director for the Muskogen Family Practice Residency Program (1996-2001). She moved back to Wichita, Kansas in 2002 to become an Associate Director of Family Practice and Osteopathic Medicine, Via Christi Medical Center, where she has remained very active in residency education through present. She truly loved teaching residents and worked closely with all the clinic staff.

Paula has fought cancer for the last several years and passed away in Via Christi Medical Hospital St. Francis Campus on August 31, 2013.
