Larry DaRos

Larry Allan DaRos, 70, of Ankeny, IA passed into eternal rest suddenly from cardiac arrest Friday, May 27, 2022.

Born March 11, 1952, in Des Moines, IA Larry graduated in 1971 from DM Roosevelt High School and served 6 years in Iowa’s Air National Gard. Shortly after marriage on July 31, 1971, to Marlene (Oliver) they made their home in Ankeny, IA. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Scott and Jeannie. Larry was employed by John Deere DM Works for 42 years, was a member of UAW’s Union Local 450 and attended St. Paul Lutheran Church, in Ankeny, IA. After retiring in 2014, Larry found a passion toward wood-working projects, “tinkering” many hours in his workshop. He also enjoyed flying homemade kites, took pride in yard work and gardening. Larry was happiest when he could stay busy. He lived a super accomplished life, in meticulous ways.

He leaves to cherish 50 years of marriage to Marlene, who will miss him dearly. He’ll be sorely missed by his son, Scott (Morgana) DaRos, Ankeny, IA, his daughter, Jeannie (Kurt) Werner, Washougal, WA, and special grandson, Adrian Werner, Washougal, WA. He leaves behind his sister, Barbara Clifford, Mesa, AZ., and Mary Marose, Missoula, MT, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, his John Deere (Dept 11) co-workers, especially his good buddy, Fred Eitner, Collins, IA, and of course his Pekingese furry-friend, Ruby.

Larry is preceded in death by his father, Augustino, his mother, Clara, brother, Auggie, and grandmother, Nellie Harper.

The family wishes to thank Ankeny Police and Rescue Team, Mercy Hospital Emergency Center, and several of his neighbors who assisted him with urgent care.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donation be directed to the American Heart Association or the animal Rescue League of Iowa. Additionally, to help us honor Larry’s amazing woodworking talents, please consider planting a tree.

A public viewing (family not present) will be at Merle Hay Funeral Home on Friday, June 3 from 10 to 11:00 AM. A private burial will take place at a later date.

Larry Pomeroy

Larry was a great guy with a wonderfully low-key sense of humor and wit.

My most vivid memories of him were from when he worked up at Chicken Delite on University next to the Waveland diner. He would often slip us a piece of pizza or chicken leg late at night when we stopped in to harrass him and ask for handouts - what a good guy!

RIP Larry D....
