Jay M. Whitten, 23, of 6930 N.E. 56th St., Altoona, died of asphyxiation Monday at home. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Hamilton's Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery.

His death was ruled a suicide by Dr. R.C. Wooters, Polk County medical examiner.

Mr. Whitten was born in Sheboygan, Wis., and had lived in Des Moines for 17 years. He was a machine operator for Anerson Erickson Dairy.

Survivors include his mother, Carol Whitten of Des Moines; his father, Bob of Des Moines; two sisters, Mandy Whitten and Rachel Whitten, both of Des Moines; and his grandmother, Marcella Zunker of Shebogan Falls, Wis.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. today until service time at the funeral home.
