Clayton Kennedy, 62, of West Des Moines, passed away peacefully from a long illness, surrounded by his loving family on October 18. He was born in Des Moines on January 12, 1949, to June and Clayton Kennedy. Clay graduated from Dowling High School in 1967 and from Creighton University in Omaha in 1971. Following college he worked at Boy's Town in Omaha and then worked at the Woodward State Hospital School in Woodward. He then went on to work at Child Services in Johnston for over 15 years until his retirement.

He is survived by his partner, Don Schmidt, West Des Moines, of nearly 35 years; his loyal Shetland sheepdog, Miss Scarlett; and his mother, June, of Clive. He was preceded in death by his father, Clayton.

He leaves to mourn his many friends and family. His family extends their love to the members of Southern Care hospice team for the support and care he received.

Visitation will be on Saturday, October 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dunn's Funeral Home, 2121 Grand Avenue in Des Moines. Burial will be at 1 p.m., Monday at the Jordan Creek Cemetery in West Des Moines.
