Kathleen "Kathy" Bowen
Kathleen “Kathy” Bowen died Monday, October 3, 2022 at home. She was a lifetime resident of Urbandale. Kathy attended St. Pius X Elementary School and graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1969. She attended the University of Iowa and earned her Bachelor’s Degree and teaching certificate. Kathy taught elementary grades at Holy Trinity School for many years. Later in life she became a librarian and retired from the Drake University Law Library. Kathy was born at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines on February 6, 1950 to William and Patricia (Lehr) Bowen. She enjoyed cooking meals for her family, picnics, long walks, and playing board games. In retirement she loved to volunteer for various charities in the area. She is survived by her brothers, Michael and William (Sherri) Bowen and her sister Valery Wachter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 10, at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul. Kathy and I were good friends through elementary school and high school. She was always fun loving and had a beautiful smile. I am so sad to hear of her passing. The heavens are welcoming a wonderful woman. Karen Reilly

Kathy and I were classmates since grade school at St. Pius X. After high school we went on to be dorm roommates at the University of Iowa. Kathy was warm and funny and smart. I am so sad to learn she has passed away.

Kathy and I were friends in grade school at St. Pius X . I have fond memories of her laughter and giggles. She just always wore a smile. Ann Grgurich Humphrey , Diane Breeding and I were so lucky to have breakfast with her during our high school reunion weekend . Anyone that knew her.....knows that she's flying with the angels!
