Obituary

Craig William Tingwald, 72, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at home, on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, in Des Moines, IA. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm Saturday, October 8, 2022, at Westover Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm with burial immediately following at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Craig was born February 24, 1950, in Des Moines, IA, to Roger and Margaret (Buss) Tingwald. He married the love of his life Charlene Parker on September 21, 2007 at Racoon River Nature Lodge in West Des Moines, Iowa. In the twenty beautiful years together, he enjoyed helping with Charlene’s endless projects, hosting family gatherings and the remodeling of their home. He was known for a smile, and always lending a helping hand to others.

Craig worked for the Iowa State Education Association for 37 years, retiring in 2018. Craig enjoyed working with all his co-workers and developed many long-lasting relationships. Throughout his life he kept himself busy with many different activities including: restoring classic cars, attending swap meets and car shows which included The Good Guys with his brothers and nephews.

Throughout his life Craig was active with golf and bowling leagues, enjoyed wood working, watching sports, (especially the Iowa Hawkeyes) and would never miss his grandchildren’s activities.

Craig is survived by his wife, Charlene Parker, sister, Kathy Clayton of West Des Moines, IA; brothers, Mark (Lynette) Tingwald of Bella Vista, AR, Jeff (Carolyn) Tingwald of Grimes, IA, Tim (Janine) Tingwald of Norwalk, IA; Charlene’s sons; Chad (Emily) Parker of Ankeny, IA, and Aaron (Chris) Parker of Urbandale, IA; three grandchildren, Tess (Jose) Navarro, Griffin Parker, and Ella Parker; three nephews, Jeffrey Tingwald, Justin (Jennifer) Tingwald, Carson Tingwald and niece, Alaina Tingwald, three great nephews and three great nieces. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret B. Tingwald, father, Roger W Tingwald, and nephew, Stephen Tingwald.
