MARY DESMOND

 OBITUARY

Mary Ellen Desmond, 72, of Chicago, IL, passed peacefully on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at Kavanagh House in Des Moines IA.
Mary graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Des Moines, IA in 1968. After receiving a BA in Sociology at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA, in 1972, she moved to Chicago, IL, and lived there until September 2022, when she moved closer to family. After college, Mary was hired by Sears Corporation, then worked at Andersen Consulting from 1975 to 1994, where she had the opportunity to travel the world. She also worked in interior design at Walter E. Smithe and Plunkett Home Furnishings for many years. She most recently was employed by Duxiana, Inc., until the pandemic hit in 2020.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Earl, and Shirley (Pier) Desmond. She is survived by her brother John, and his wife Sue, of Urbandale, IA; brother Patrick, and his wife Karen, of Loveland, CO; and sister Betsy, and her husband Dennis Diddy, of Dallas Center, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Cremation has taken place and her cremains will be buried at a later date.
