Ed Hendry Obituary

Ed Hendry died March 27, 2023 at the age of 82.

Ed Hendry was born April 11, 1940 in Detroit, MI to Walter and Mary Hendry. His family belonged to Grace Methodist Church in Detroit, where Ed met his future wife, Barbara at the age of 13. They both attended Mackenzie High School. Ed graduated in 1958, and two years later Barb and Ed wed. In 1962, Barb and Ed welcomed their first child, and two more within the next five years. He began working at Channel 56 while in college and left as director of engineering to join General Motors as an electrical/video engineer and finished out his career there.

Ed’s favorite pastime was being President of McMath-Hulbert Astronomical Society in Lake Angelus, MI. He had a brilliant mind. He was “Mr. Fix It,” our go to guy for everything. He would do just about anything for anyone. He always supported baseball games, dance recitals, and any other family functions. He was always up for an ocean cruise, he loved to travel. He was a true and loyal friend to many.

Most important to Ed was his family. Loving husband of Barbara for almost 63 years. He was the best father to his three children, Jeffrey Hendry (Angela), David Hendry (Stacey), and Lori Hendry. He was also a wonderful grandfather to Shannon, Karlie, Jordan, Connor, Jaclyn, Erik (Renee), and Julie. He was dear brother of Phyllis Rickabus (David) and preceded in death by his fraternal brother Jim Hendry. Ed will be missed by all, including his loving four-legged companions, Tucker, Cody, and Sophie.

Funeral Service Saturday, April 1, 2023 11 AM at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Rd (between Maple and Big Beaver), 248-362-2500. Family will receive friends Friday 3-8 PM.
