GEORGE'S OBITUARY
George O. Wold, Jr., of Farmington Hills, a respected figure in the advertising industry and beloved family man, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 20, 2025, at the age of 90. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, George spent his early years in Indianapolis, Chicago, and Detroit, and it was in Detroit, at McKenzie High School, where he met his future wife, Lou Ann (Garner). The couple shared a 68-year marriage full of love, adventure, and dedication to their family and careers.
A graduate of Wayne State University, George earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He was an active member of Alpha Delta Sigma and the ROTC program, exemplifying his commitment to leadership and service from an early age. After college, George made a lasting mark in the advertising industry, holding prominent positions at McManus Advertising, Kenyon and Eckhardt Advertising, and LaRue Cleveland. He also worked as a self-employed consultant with Bruce Wynkoop.
Throughout his career, George played an instrumental role in shaping the success of many major clients. His portfolio of esteemed accounts included the Bendix Corporation, Pontiac, Mr. Goodwrench, Chrysler, Detroit Diesel, Dow Chemical, Youngstown Steel, General Tire, and Fruehauf Trucking, to name a few. His exemplary work was recognized with numerous awards in the advertising industry, underscoring his creative vision and strategic insight.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, George was passionate about cars, working outdoors, and travel. His adventurous spirit led him to explore the world, whether on a road trip or embarking on international journeys with his wife. He was also the co-author of a widely respected marketing and media handbook, further contributing his expertise to the field.
George is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Lou Ann, along with his daughters, Susan (Daniel) Biringer and Carol Ann (Steve) Ernat; grandchildren, Jack (Melissa) Rucinski and Adam Rucinski; and great-grandchildren, Weston and Cole. He was preceded in death by his sisters, June Avedisian and Barbara Wold. He will be remembered not only for his outstanding career but also for his integrity, generosity, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. George’s legacy is one of excellence, warmth, and inspiration.
A memorial service is planned for Tuesday, January 28, 11 am, with gathering and visitation beginning at 10 am, at Nardin Park United Methodist Church, 29887 W. 11 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills.
George’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his impact on the advertising industry will never be forgotten. May he rest in eternal peace.

George was a loyal and true Friend of Mackenzie, and he was instrumental in the establishment of the school's annual and ongoing "After 50" luncheon. He will be missed.
