Kenneth A Monberg of Farmington Hills passed away Friday, August 5, 2022, at age 77. The son of Arthur and Dorothy Monberg.

Beloved husband of 53 years to Diane; brother to Barbara Carpenter, and the late Carol Doering, loving uncle of Dawn Buchanan, Diana Boza, David Wooten, Amy Wooten, Tracie Winters, Amber Winters and many other nieces and nephews.

Ken was born on October 10, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan. He attended George Ford Elementary, Mackenzie High School and Wayne State University. He worked at a local grocery store starting at age 15 until he graduated from High School.

 He was hired at General Motors, Fisher Body Division in 1962. In July of 1965 he was drafted into the Army and took basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. From there he went to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri for Advanced Engineer Training. He was sent to Viet Nam with the 1st Air Calvary Division from November 1965 until November 1966 and then onto Fort Hood, Texas to complete his assignment. He was a combat engineer and reached the rank of E-5 Sergeant. After the service he returned to General Motors and worked there until 1988. In 1988 he joined Electronic Data Systems and worked there in various assignments until his retirement in October 1999.

 He married his wife Diane on May 16, 1969, at Hope Lutheran Church in Dearborn, MI and became a member in 1970. Ken loved to travel, and he and Diane took many trips visiting national parks, taking cruises and going to Las Vegas. In 1974 they purchased season tickets to Michigan Football games and have been attending games for almost 48 years. They attended 20 bowl games with the team over the years and were in attendance when Michigan won the national championship in 1997. Ken also loved to play hockey and golf and spent many years on the ice and the golf course.

When not engaging in sports he was very active at Hope Church. He served on many committees and was president of the congregation many times right up until his death. He was the “go to” person for just about everything related to his church. A walking book of knowledge. He loved being in charge and making sure things were done right. He will be truly missed by his family, friends, and church family.

Visitation Wednesday, August 10th, from 2:00 – 8:00 pm, at Thayer-Rock Funeral Home Downtown Farmington.
