IN THE CARE OF
Phyllis Ann Rickabus, age 79, of Metamora, Michigan, passed away on February 6, 2025.
Phyllis was born to Mary and Walter Hendry on June 13, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan. Phyllis attended Mackenzie High School, where she met an amazing group of lifelong friends that they call "Mackenzie Group". After graduating from Mackenzie, Phyllis went on to attend Michigan State University, where she obtained her Bachelor's of Science degree. Phyllis worked as a Medical Technician at the Detroit Medical Center, and later worked as an Administrative Assistant for Senior Minister, Dr. Hickey, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Phyllis married the love of her life, David Rickabus, on October 12, 1985, they spent almost 40 wonderful years together.
Phyllis was an incredible woman who had an enormous love for life. She and Dave traveled extensively, even hiking the Appalachian Trail for 2 to 3 months. They enjoyed deer hunting and loved the outdoors. Phyllis had a passion for horses and horseback riding. She was also famous for her delicious pies. And she enjoyed watercolor painting and helping her husband Dave by designing and laying out stained glass patterns to use for his many creations. Phyllis also enjoyed building and refurbishing old cars with Dave. She often volunteered for organizations like the Habitat for Humanity through their church. And her love of climbing trees during her younger years helped with her fearlessness to assist with rooftop repairs or climbing tall ladders when needed. Phyllis was also always ready for new projects in and around their beautiful home on Lake Lapeer, which she loved.
Phyllis had a strong love for her family, and made holidays extra fun with her silly joke gifts and gadgets. She was always the life of the party and she will be greatly missed.
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband Dave, her three stepchildren: Gail (Doug) Peters, Ted (Kelly) Rickabus, and Jeff Rickabus; her grandchildren Adam (Beth Taramoto) Rickabus and great granddaughter Miya, Daniel Rickabus, Nick Peters, Megan (Matt) Freeman and great granddaughter Brooke. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Walter Hendry and her brothers Jim and Ed Hendry.
Plans currently for her Celebration of Life are for Friday, June 13, 2025, at 11:00am. On June 13th we will also be honoring Phyllis’ 80th Birthday. The Visitation (first hour), Celebration of Life, and the Luncheon afterwards will all be at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Rochester, MI.
